1 Year Check-Up

Hannah had her 1 year check-up today. It pretty much reconfirmed what we already know, we have a big girl on our hands :-) Here are her stats:

Height: 31.5 inches 97th%
Weight: 23 lbs 75th%
Head: 48 cm 97th%

In other news: It snowed about 6 inches outside since last night (I probably don't need the word outside here...snow isn't known to fall inside very often, oh well). I LOVE the snow. This is Utah's first big snow storm of the season. And it makes me happy that snow finally graced us with its presence. Hip Hip Hooray!

No Longer A Baby.....

Yesterday was Hannah's 1st birthday! She is now officially a toddler, no longer a baby. I was so excited for her to turn 1. But now that she has, it makes me a pretty sad and nostalgic mother. 1 year passed faster than the blink of an eye.

It seems like just yesterday that I looked like this and couldn't wait to meet my little girl:And then she entered the world and changed my life forever:
And now that teeny tiny little pumpkin that I couldn't wait to grow up is 1 year old and looks like this:

She is the most beautiful girl I have ever known, inside and out. I am so grateful to be her mother.

And now to the things Hannah is up to at 1 year.

Words

  • She still says ball, der (there), dada, mama, and num num's everyday. Those are her 5 main word's. Recently she added a 6th! She says "wa wa" when she wants something to drink (juice, water, milk). It is pretty stinking cute.
  • She's said "no" a couple of times, but usually she just shakes her head at us when she doesn't want something. Just recently she started nodding her head to say "yes".
  • Her baby talk is the most adorable baby talk Jake and I have ever heard. I will miss her baby gibberish when she get's older. It is filled with so many consonants and inflections it almost sounds like a different language.
Toys
  • Her favorite toy is still by far a ball. It is sometimes her first word in the morning as we change her diaper.
  • She also loves her baby doll. She gives every stuffed animal kisses and snuggles, but baby gets extra snuggles and kisses and body slams to the ground. She does this cute little whimper when she sees baby and continues to do it until she is done giving her loves. Baby even gets extra pats on the bum.
Activities
  • Everyday she is getting braver and more accomplished at walking. The most we've seen her take in one stroll is about 25 steps. Even if she isn't walking by herself she loves to hold our hand and just walk around.
  • Watching Tigger and Pooh. She loves Tigger and Pooh. When they clap on the show, Hannah claps too. When they laugh, she laughs. When they're scared she scurries away from the TV scared too. I should probably be more stingy when it comes to TV watching. But I just can't resist having 25 mins to do something like say....write a blog post without a little one growing impatient with me:-)
Food
  • She still loves to nurse. We are cutting back a bit, but she still does her fair share of nursing. I've been giving her a little cow's milk, but she doesn't seem to like it much.
  • Balls aka grapes and pea's
  • Yogurt or yogurt melts.
  • Diced chicken or turkey
  • Spaghetti
And that is our girl in a nutshell. In other exciting news, I had 2 friend's who had babies yesterday. So now Hannah shares a birthday date with 2 little friend's. Go to my friend Megan's blog to read more about December 3rd, the baby day.

Family Christmas Pictures

I've been looking forward to doing Christmas Card's this year but Jake and I spent a lot of money on our family pictures and Hannah's 6 month portraits earlier this year. In order to save some money my sister-in-law Rashell was kind enough to take our pictures this past weekend. She did a wonderful job and I am very happy with how they turned out. The only thing that could have been better was Hannah's smile. Mostly because her smile was nonexistent the majority of the time, at least for our family pictures. It's a good thing she's so adorable, not many people can pull of the grumpy scowl face and still look pretty.

Hannah is walking! Video included :-)

Hannah began taking a few steps by herself at the end of October. The little munchkin became an expert at walking around rooms while holding onto furniture/walls. One day we noticed our girl being more efficient by cutting corner's and letting go for a couple of steps. Jake left us for a few days for an interview and when he got home Sunday night Hannah was ready to show off her skills. Jake and I were laying on the couch watching Hannah when she stood up at the far end of our long couch and walked to the other side of the couch (8 steps) without holding onto anything. It was so cute watching her wobble around and catch her balance a couple of times to keep going. We have been trying to catch her walking on video and this morning I was able to get a few good ones. Now for your viewing enjoyment, I introduce to you Hannah, the amateur walker:

This first video display's her ability to pivot and change directions mid stroll. In the second video she walks towards me 8 steps and then sits down. And the last video is mostly for my mom :-) She wanted me to post more video's of Hannah talking.

Disclaimer: Please ignore my high pitched squeal of a voice. If only there was a mommy mute button....

Relief

Jake received an interview invitation from the University of Utah yesterday. The U is our top choice, so I am soooooo relieved that we heard back from them. We are definitely counting our blessings. Way to go Jacobo!

Hannah's 1st Halloween

Jake has been sick for the past week, so Hannah and I celebrated Halloween on our own this year. Her costume is a hand-me-down from her cousin.

Hannah made an adorable little chicken!
Hannah and I spent time with my brother's family eating chili, drinking cider, and eating lots of candy :-) It was fun, but we look forward to celebrating it with a healthy Jake next year!
